Our appointment on Thursday went great! John was once again the star patient, racking up compliments left and right on his stellar behavior. The appointment lasted well over 2 hours and then we had to wait another hour for a prescription to be filled and he was a fabulous child the entire time.
So we loved the doctor, both John and I. He was very kind and warm (somewhat of a rarity in some of the specialists who have seen John) and incredibly patient with my many questions. We received a prescription that should help to lower John's ICP and lessen any headaches if he is experiencing them. We also got great news in that the doctor did not believe that John's optic nerves looked enlarged. This could indicate that the pressure has naturally come down since John's first opthalmologic appointment, his MRI and MRV. Or it could be relief since the LP, which he didn't feel was likely as cerebral spinal fluid generally replenishes within 48 hours of the procedure. Who knows, but whatever the reason, this is great news for John's eye health.
The doctor wants to be informed of any further developments and if any procedures are done where he will be sedated so that he can get an even better look into those eyes. We will follow up with him in 3 months and repeat the LP in about 6 months to see how the ICP is doing.
